At the Philonise and Keeta Floyd Institute for Social Change, (PAKFISC), we are a beacon of light, reminding everyone that the police have a responsibility to deescalate situations rather than escalate incidents that result in death.

This mission underscores the critical importance of passing the George Floyd Justice and Policing Act of 2024 (HB 8525). This bill will finally hold law enforcement accountable for misconduct, separating those who engage in unethical behavior from the majority who are committed to just and equitable public safety. It will also improve training, practices, and transparency, crucial steps in rebuilding the broken trust between law enforcement and the communities they serve.

Just as countless individuals stood alongside us during the aftermath of George Floyd’s murder, we are here to continue this fight for justice. The passage of HB 8525 is essential to ensure accountability, promote deescalation practices, and safeguard lives, reflecting our collective commitment to meaningful change and justice for all
